Obituary
Deacon James A Senter, born July 19, 1943 to Opal and Jessie Senter (Deceased) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I attended Dunbar Elementary School, Carver Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. I completed two years of college in Industrial Arts at Langston University, pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Shortly after college I enlisted in the United States Air Force, received an honorable discharge in 1968. The benefits from the Air Force allowed me to earn a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts and Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Guidance & Counseling.
He retired from the Oklahoma City Public School System after 32 years of service. I served as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Star Spencer High School in 1978 and transferred to Washington Center Alternative School as a Counselor. My first assignment was Assistant Principal at Hoover from 1983 until 2000, when I retired, I was either Principal at Taft Middle School, Northwest Classen High School or Harding Middle School.
Deacon Senter was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. He served in many areas: Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Secretary of the Board, Director of Christian Education, Member of the Male Chorus, helped established the Food Ministry, served in the Sick/Shut-in Ministry, Grief Ministry and worked with Ebony Awareness Bowl.
His legacy was his loving wife (Margaret-married 49-years), daughter: (Cessnie), son-in-law Edward, four amazing grandchildren: (Christen, Charles, Cassius, and Ethan), and one great granddaughter: (Charity). He also leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, two sisters, his brothers and sisters-in- law (Senter-Selmon), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends.
Life on Earth
Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be.
A resting place along the way, to sweet eternity.
We all have different paths along the way, but never
meant to stay...
Our destination is a place, far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker, for some the
journey is slow...
When the journey finally ends we'll claim a great
reward of everlasting peace, and we will all be together
again with the Lord...
