Gerthia was born on August 29, 1948 to Viola Barkus and John Jerry " Jelly " Bruner in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Middle Creek Baptist Church.

On September 16 , 1967, she married the love of her life, Jimmie Ray Abraham. Three children were born to this union.

Gerthia, also affectionately given the name " Caldonia " was all about family. She had a huge heart and offered help to anyone who was in need, never looking for anything in return. She was a true example of LOVE.
