Eula Mae
Roland
Aug 4, 1930 — Jul 18, 2023
Eula's journey began on August 4, 1930, on a humble farm in Newalla, OK where she was born to Roosevelt and Mattie Sutton. She was the third child among her siblings, Nanna Mae, and four brothers, Fred, Herman, Russell and Robert.
Eula graduated from Dunbar High School in 1949 and later from Langston University in 1954, where she majored in Home Economics. Shortly after completing her studies, a fire destroyed her family's home and lead them to relocate to Oklahoma City.
From a young age, Eula embraced the teachings of the Lord and found solace in her faith. In 1946, while attending Garden Addition Baptist Church, she accepted Christ, under the guidance of Rev. Leonard. It was here that the Lord brought Eula and Dewitt together. The two united in marriage in 1956 and together raised their beautiful family, with four boys from Dewitt's previous marriage- Victor, Charles, Jerone, and Vance- and three children from their union; Dewitt Jr., Leander, and Lornia.
As the pastor's wife, she embraced her role with grace and love, endearing herself to the congregation of St. Luke Baptist Church in Spencer. Eula was an active member of the church, teaching Sunday school, serving with the church's Mobile Meal Ministry and as the Vacation Bible School director for several years.
She had a sweet nature that endeared her to all who crossed her path. She supported her family, maintained her staple fitness routine, and loved to kick back and enjoy her Westerns, Lifetime movies and Wheel of Fortune. Her absolute favorite thing to watch was Gospel music on YouTube.
Throughout her life, Eula's unwavering love for the Lord provided her with strength and guidance, and her faithfulness was a beacon of light to others. Even after the passing of Pastor Dewitt in 1992, she continued to be a pillar of support to those around her, exemplifying the true essence of faith and resilience.
May her memory continue to inspire us to lead lives filled with love, compassion, and devotion to the things that matter most.
