Alfred
Mbroh
Feb 3, 1932 — May 6, 2023
Alfred Kwame Mbroh was born February 3, 1932, at Senya Breku in Central Region of Ghana, to Robert Kofi Mbroh and Nancy Ocran. Alfred was the first born to his parents' six children.
Alfred started his primary education at Senya Breku Methodist School until the family relocated to Agona Swedru, where he continued education at the St. John's Anglican school. Alfred gave his life to Christ at an early age. He became a Mass server in the Anglican Church which got him admiration from many in the Abasraba community in Winneba. After successful completion of middle school, he went to Wesley College Kumasi where he obtained his bachelor's degree in education. Alfred worked as Headmaster at Anglican Primary School, in Nkawkaw Kwahu in Eastern Region of Ghana.
During Alfred's tenure at Anglican Primary School, one of the teachers on his staff introduced him to a dear friend, Esther Acheampong. Alfred placed his charm on Esther and swept her off her feet. The two become one on August 31, 1967. A couple of years later, Alfred joined his brother Benjamin in the United States to further his education at Oklahoma City University. While in school, Alfred worked at W&W Steel Company, where he became a Certified Welder. After obtaining his Master of Psychology degree from Oklahoma City University, he worked as a Social Worker at Job Corp., and the Department of Human Services for the State of Oklahoma. Alfred later became a franchisee for Jani-King Janitorial.
Alfred was a very intelligent man who loved to read, counsel, cook, worship, sing and play racquetball. He belonged to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, where he was a loyal member of the choir for over 50 years. His faith in God never wavered. Alfred was an extremely strong man, who was health conscious. He exercised and played racquetball at least four days a week and well into his eighties, until it took a toll on his knees. Alfred was challenged by his college aged nephew, Anthony Mbroh, to a game of racquetball and Alfred was victorious. His nephew thought he could beat him because of his age but he learned really fast who was the King of the racquetball court. Alfred did not take his health for granted. He always read books about good health and what vitamins to take. If he knew you were sick, he would recommend something to cure your alignment. He was the Mbroh family doctor.
Alfred was caring, giving, and loved to help others. He was a pioneer in the Oklahoma Ghanaian Community and was instrumental in helping other Ghanaian's come to the United States and obtain jobs and citizenship. He conducted pre-marital counseling for many couples and performed tribal baby naming ceremonies. He was known in the Ghanaian community as "Master."
Alfred Kwame Mbroh departed this life at ninety-one years of age, on his daughter's birthday, May 6, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nancy Mbroh, son Lawrence Mbroh, three brothers: Albert Mbroh, Benjamin Mbroh, and Harry Mbroh (Agatha).
Alfred leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Esther, son Robert J. Mbroh (Carmon), daughter Linda Mbroh Wilson, grandsons Robert L. Mbroh and Steven Mbroh Wilson; sisters Grace Mbroh and Alice Mbroh Simpson and a host of nieces and nephews.
